Muscles contract when they receive a neurotransmitter release from a nerve. Like Botulinum Toxin A, Pretox® 20 releases the amount of nerve stimulation on the local muscle tissue being targeted but unlike Botulinum Toxin A, Pretox® does not paralyze the muscle completely. Instead it gently and temporarily reduces the strength of specific muscle contractions, thus the formation of new lines and wrinkles is reduced and old lines appear much less prominent - leaving you with smoother, younger looking skin.

Pretox® 20 contains an inoffensive hexapeptide composed of natural amino acids to reduce the depth of the wrinkles in the face caused by the contraction of the muscles of facial expression, especially in the forehead & around the eyes. Hexapeptide prevents the ageing of skin induced by repeated facial movements caused by excessive catecholamine (neurotransmitter) release. Clinical tests have shown that Pretox® 20 inhibits the snare complex (muscle contraction mechanism) to a greater extent than other relative peptides. In fact, Pretox® 20 is up to 70% more effective at reducing muscle stimulation than leading competitors. Pretox® 20 is a safe and relatively inexpensive alternative to harsh, muscle paralysis treatment and can also be used to prolong the effects of Botulinum Toxin treatments.

Dynamic wrinkles are formed as a result of facial muscles contractions. Thus the most common locations of dynamic wrinkles are on the forehead, on the outer corners of the eyes (the so called “crow’s feet”) and between the eyebrows. When muscles contract, they cause the overlaying skin to crumple and form lines. Probably the most effective and popular treatment against dynamic wrinkles is Botulinum Toxin A, also known as BOTOX. The treatment works by paralysing the muscles of facial expression, thus preventing their contraction and new lines from forming. Pretox® 20 is a next-generation injection-free solution to anyone in their mid-20s to 40s, who would like to obtain similar results to Botulinum Toxin A treatment, without drastic measures. Pretox® 20 effectively rejuvenates the skin by working on all three layers of skin and on the muscular filaments, responsible for the facial expression.

In order to understand how Pretox works, it is essential to become familiar with how muscle contractions are stimulated. It is the attenuation or muting of muscle contraction in the facial muscle groups which allows wrinkles to ‘flatten out’ and become much less visible. Therefore, inhibition of the Snare Complex is the key to preventing the formation of dynamic wrinkles.

SNARE Complex

The nervous system and consequently the muscle contractions depend on chemical substances for communication among the various neurons and nervous fibres. These chemicals enable the brain to interpret signals (neurotransmitters) and produce a mechanical response (muscle contractions).

The neurotransmitter, usually an ACl anion, travels from the nerve to the muscle in a package called a ‘vesicle’.

Once the vesicle reaches the pre-synaptic membrane in the neuron, it releases the neurotransmitter, which is then adjoined by the SNARE complex receptor (a receptor composed of neuronal proteins).

The ACl anion’s binding with SNARE proteins releases a Na+ cataion which leads to depolarisation of the muscle cell membrane and muscle contraction.
However, if the reception of the SNARE complex is inhibited, the neurotransmitter signal cannot reach the muscle cell and the contraction is prevented. The second graph illustrates the process of neurotransmitter release in the skin treated with Argireline peptide solution. The ACl anion, travels from the nerve to the muscle in a ‘vesicle’. Once the vesicle reaches the
pre-synaptic membrane in the neuron, it releases the neurotransmitter, which is then adjoined by the Argireline (hexapeptides).

The SNARE complex receptor remains closed, no Na+ cataions are released, depolarisation of the muscle cell membrane does not take place and the muscle stays relaxed. Clinical tests have shown that Pretox® inhibits the SNARE Complex in ageing skin.
 

Apply twice daily to clean, dry skin. Product should be used sparingly on targeted areas, avoiding upper & lower eyelids and lips.

Allow to absorb for 3-5 minutes before applying solution-based products, hydrator, sunscreen or make-up.

We endorse the use of sun protection. Pretox® 20 may be used as a stand-alone treatment.
